Terms of Service

1. Who this agreement is with

These Terms are between you and Serath LLC ("we," "us"), the operator of Familiar. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these Terms.

2. The service

Familiar lets you design an illustrated animal companion and converse with it. Replies are generated by a large language model and reviewed by an automated safety check before being shown to you. Your companion is a fictional character — it does not have a physical presence, is not a real animal, and any claim it makes to the contrary within the conversation is part of its fictional framing, not a real-world statement of fact.

3. Not professional advice

Familiar is not a veterinarian, doctor, therapist, or emergency service. Anything your companion says about a real pet's health, your own health, or a crisis situation is not professional advice — always contact a licensed veterinarian, medical professional, or emergency/crisis service for those situations. If you are in crisis, contact your local emergency number or, in the US, call or text 988.

4. Accounts and eligibility

You need an account to use Familiar. You're responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for activity that happens under your account. This service is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

5. Subscriptions, billing, and cancellation

• Free, Plus, and Premium plans are billed as described at signup and on the pricing section of our homepage.
• Paid plans renew automatically each billing period until canceled — payment is processed by Stripe; we don't store your card details ourselves.
• You can cancel anytime from your account settings. Cancellation stops future renewals; you keep paid-tier access through the end of the period you already paid for.
• We don't offer partial or prorated refunds for unused time in a billing period, except where required by law or at our discretion for a genuine billing error.
• We may change pricing going forward; we'll give you notice before any change affects your next renewal.

6. Acceptable use

Don't use Familiar to break the law, to attempt to extract another user's data, to abuse or attack the service (including trying to bypass rate limits or safety filters), or to generate content that violates these Terms. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate this section.

7. Your content

You own what you type. To provide the service, your messages are sent to Anthropic (our AI provider) to generate replies and to run a safety check, and stored in our database so your companion can remember your conversation. We don't sell your conversations or use them to train models for other users — see our Privacy Policy and data & shutdown policy for the specifics.

8. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

Familiar is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Serath LLC is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service. Nothing in this section limits liability where the law doesn't allow it to be limited.

9. Termination

You can delete your account anytime from account settings. We may suspend or terminate your access for violating these Terms, with notice where reasonably possible.

10. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as the service changes. We'll post the updated date at the top of this page; continued use after a change means you accept the update.
